Corvinus Metaphor Workshop on the road

Over the past few months, CMW members showcased their research at two international conferences.

Réka Benczes, Utku Bozdag, and Lilla Petronella Szabó travelled to Düsseldorf, Germany, to present multiple papers at the International Cognitive Linguistics Conference (ICLC) organized by the International Cognitive Linguistics Association (ICLA) on August 7–11, 2023.

Réka Benczes gave a talk on the metaphorical conceptualization of LIFE during the COVID-19 pandemic, based on a joint paper with István Benczes, Bence Ságvári and Lilla Szabó. She and Lilla Szabó also presented their work co-authored with Keith Allan, Kate Burridge, and Mia Lindgren about the metaphors surrounding late-onset depression in Australian daily newspapers.

Lilla Szabó also gave a presentation on her paper on the metonymic representation of the EAST and WEST in Hungarian online news media.

Utku Bozdag displayed his poster about the framing of fled people on the Twitter accounts of Turkish online media outlets. Next, Alexandra Nagy-Béni and Lilla P. Szabó took the road to the 7th Figurative Thought and Language conference in Genoa, Italy. Here, they presented their joint research on the visual metonymies surrounding the Russo-Ukrainian war. Lilla P. Szabó also discussed her work with Alexandra Sipos (Hungarian Research Network) on the representation of the LGBTQ community in Hungarian online news.

All in all, not only life, but metaphor research is also a journey that led our members to exciting and inspiring events. We are looking forward to the new paths metaphor research takes the Corvinus Metaphor Workshop.

Útra kelt a Corvinus Metafora Műhely

Az elmúlt hónapokban a CMM tagjai két nemzetközi konferencián mutatták be kutatásaikat.

Benczes Réka, Utku Bozdag és Szabó Lilla Petronella a németországi Düsseldorfban tárgyalták legújabb eredményeiket a International Cognitive Linguistics Association (ICLA) által megrendezett International Cognitive Linguistics Conference (ICLC) keretében 2023. augusztus 7 és 11 között.

Benczes Réka előadásában az ÉLET metaforikus konceptualizációját tárgyalta a COVID-19 világjárvány kontextusában a Benczes Istvánnal, Ságvári Bencével és Szabó Lilla Petronellával készített közös tanulmányuk alapján. Szabó Lillával közös prezentációjukban bemutatták továbbá a Keith Allan, Kate Burridge és Mia Lindgren társszerzőkkel végzett kutatásukat, amely az időskori depresszió metaforáit vizsgálta az ausztrál napilapokban.

Szabó Lilla a magyar online hírmédia KELET és NYUGAT metonimikus reprezentációjáról szóló tanulmányáról is előadást tartott.

Utku Bozdag a török online hírmédia Twitter-fiókjain a menekültek keretezéséről szóló poszterét mutatta be. Szeptemberben Nagy-Béni Alexandra és Szabó Lilla útja az olaszországi Genovába, a hetedik Figurative Thought and Language konferenciára vezetett, ahol az orosz-ukrán háborút övező vizuális metonímiákról szóló kutatásukat ismertették. Szabó Lilla emellett Sipos Alexandrával (Magyar Kutatási Hálózat) közösen végzett munkájáról is beszélt, amely az LMBTQ közösség reprezentációját tárta fel a magyar online hírekben.

Az utóbbi időszak konferenciái tanúskodnak róla, hogy nemcsak az élet, hanem a kutatómunka is izgalmas utazás, amely szakmailag inspiráló eseményekre vezette tagjainkat. Kíváncsian várjuk milyen új utakra kalauzolja a Corvinus Metafora Műhelyt a metaforakutatás!
